My father was an Army Ranger. Two tours in Vietnam, '73 and '74. Growing up, I watched him battle his demons. I was born in '75. If a car backfired, he would push us all down and cover us. I found an old container one time going through his dresser as a kid. He caught me and was so enraged i thought my life was over. He stopped suddenly. And then sat down next to me and explained that what I was holding was the last remembrance of his best friend. Pieces of shrapnel that he dug out of his dead friend who had saved his life by jumping on a grenade. To all warriors, no matter where you're from. Much respect and love...

I remember this documentary. Great watch harsh reality displayed about the war in Iraq, you see both sides as a civilian and as the soldiers trying to help, there was turning point during the war when the locals eventually came around; the older men understood how the U.S. was there to help.

But come to find out . Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 (the influence on this war ) it's sad. I try to think about it differently: imagine an Iraq soilder knocking on our door at 3 am. I would grab a gun too. America invaded iraq😢

certain people are rebellious and CHOOSE to act crazy. but when you have people like Celie who are obligated to tolerate bullshit it's only a matter of time until the table turn on the crazy people. For example celie was seconds away from killing albert later in the film.why is so difficult for people to treat others with respect, I'll never know

I am honestly disappointed in Steven Spielberg for not delving into Celie and Shug's relationship, not choreographing a sex scene between the two women for the movie like in the book, which is explicit, and not showing conversation in the movie where Celie admits that loves Shug, that they both agreed to leave together so they could be together, not to show Celie's suffering when she discovers that Shug has fallen in love with someone else, not to say in a line in the movie Celie that she told Shug in the book that she will love forever and also not show Celie's evolution of being able to overcome her sadness without Shug's love and also not say that the novel does say that Shug separated and divorced therefore she is single and that they give it as an ending that can That they both resume their relationship because they have both matured and despite all the love is still intact, I thought it was horrible for Steven to omit a lot of material from the book to the movie, because think about it, if he had done it, the movie would be a true masterpiece, a movie faithful to his book, to its essence, but what was Spielberg's excuse "I was ashamed", ashamed? ashamed of what? to show one of the most beautiful love stories and with a personal growth of its fantastic characters, and on top of that, Steven says that he has no regrets because he says that it was in line with the approach that he wanted to show in the movie, but of course, when it comes to of love and explicit scenes of heterosexual sex does not say the same thing, how hypocritical, at least this scene I want to imagine that anyone who has seen it without having read the book can know about that beautiful and pure love of Celie and Shug, and a news that also left me a little disappointed is that Margaret Avery (who played Shug) and Alice Walker (who is the writer of the book "The Color Purple"), both women are bisexual, and they did not fight to defend sincere and explicit love in the movie that does show and tell the book, anyway, I hope that if someone reads this they can understand that for me, who is gay 🏳️‍🌈, it is horrible that film adaptations have to codify, modify or subliminate the characters, the stories and the truth, because it is all that, the truth of the lgbt community, my community, thank you

I know this scene isn't funny but something about the way her father just nonchantly goes "ain't you done yet" While Celie's screaming her head off in pain just cracks me up there's no other moment in the movie like this that makes me laugh it's just this one don't know why

I know, it’s just so comically wicked that it’s not even believable. But it’s actually totally realistic, part of that level of abuse is shaming the victim for imaginary wrongs when the greatest sin has been done to them.

Have you read the book? The book was more explicit than the new movie or any of them. Celie was talking about Shug’s body and how it made her nipples harden and in the book, after they kissed, Shug begin to suck Celie’s tits…and they talked about being “married women” … these are from clips of the book I’ve read online but others say it went into more detail about their marriage and staying with each other for years. Also the author, Alice Walker is bisexual and confirmed. I’m not glorying the sex scenes but I think it’s just realistic and beautiful that Celie was taught sex and relationships can be enjoyable through Shug or anyone.
